SACRAMENTO – In a bid to bolster the resilience of independent eateries and caterers, the Restaurants Care Resilience Fund has opened its doors for a new round of grant applications.

The Restaurants Care Resilience Fund is currently accepting applications from June 15 to 30. This fund looks to provide an opportunity for independent restaurants and commercial caterers to apply for $5,000 grants aimed at enhancing resilience. The grant can be used for various purposes, including technology upgrades, equipment enhancements, employee training and retention and addressing unforeseen hardships

Restaurants Care expects 278 small businesses to receive the grants. Restaurants Care, a program of the nonprofit California Restaurant Foundation, is dedicated to supporting food and beverage workers. The Resilience Fund, initially created in response to the pandemic, has now become a permanent resource to foster resilience within the restaurant community. Since 2021, 1,325 independent restaurants in California have received a total of $5.94 millions in grants from Restaurant Care.

According to the Restaurant Care, winning restaurants have represented diverse backgrounds with 66% owned by women and 77% owned by people of color. These restaurants employ 11 people on average, meaning the grants have contributed to the livelihoods of over 10,000 employees.
