Sanger, Fresno County schools shine in California Academic Decathlon

Hallmark Academy, University High to represent state at United States Academic Decathlon National Competition

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Hallmark Academy in Sanger and University High School in Fresno County have emerged as formidable contenders in the 2024 California Academic Decathlon, securing their places at the upcoming United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) National Competition. The state championship, which concluded on Sunday, March 24, at the Santa Clara Marriott, saw a strong showing from various schools across California.

El Camino Real Charter High School from Los Angeles claimed the state title for the third time in five years, leading the charge for California’s bid to continue its 20-year winning streak at the national level. The team will head to Pittsburgh, Pa., from April 25 to 27, to compete in the prestigious USAD National Competition.

Joining El Camino Real Charter High School at the national competition will be Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies and Hallmark Academy, representing California’s large schools. Additionally, University High School, along with Granada Hills Charter High School and Western Center Academy, will participate in the national competition’s online segment.

The championship also recognized Valencia High School as the Division 2 State Champions, highlighting the diverse talent across California’s academic landscape.

George Wong, one of the founding members of the California Academic Decathlon, expressed his satisfaction with the program’s growth and its role in fostering lifelong learning and critical thinking among students.
