$6.5M settlement reached in Omni Health data breach suit

CENTRAL VALLEY – A $6.5 million settlement has been tentatively approved in a class-action lawsuit against Omni Family Health, resolving claims that a cyberattack in 2024 exposed the data of more than 468,000 patients and employees across its Central Valley health centers, including those in Fresno and Tulare counties.

Omni Family Health, which operates 39 community health centers in Kern, Kings, Tulare and Fresno counties, suffered a cyberattack in February 2024 that disrupted its IT systems for five days. 

According to a report from The HIPPA Journal, while an initial investigation reportedly found no proof that patient data had been compromised, a threat actor later claimed to have breached the network and posted allegedly stolen data on the dark web. 

Omni confirmed the authenticity of the data and notified 468,344 affected individuals on Oct. 10, 2024, including both current and former patients and employees. The exposed information may have included names, addresses, social security numbers, dates of birth, health insurance details and medical records.

The litigation began with three class-action lawsuits filed in the U.S. Eastern District of California in October 2024; additional lawsuits followed in state court. All 21 cases were later consolidated into a lead case, Pace v. Omni Family Health, now before the Superior Court of Kern County. 

Although Omni denies wrongdoing, it opted to settle to avoid the burdens of continued litigation. Under the agreement, about $2.2 million will be allocated for attorneys’ fees and costs, $30,000 for class representative awards and the remaining funds will compensate class members. Eligible individuals can claim:

• Reimbursement for documented, unreimbursed losses (up to $5,000);
• A pro rata cash payment (estimated at $105.56 per person, assuming a 4% claim rate);
• Two years of credit monitoring and identity-theft protection; and
• Residents of California may also receive an additional $100 pro rata cash award.

Omni has also committed to enhancing its security practices to reduce the risk of future breaches (at its own cost, not using settlement funds). To file a claim, participants must submit by Jan. 5, 2026, and those wishing to object or opt out must do so by Dec. 5, 2025.

In Tulare County, Omni has a presence in Visalia at 311 W. Noble Ave. and a location in Exeter at 1110 W. Visalia Road, Suite 102.
