DEL REY – A 46-year-old Fresno man was killed when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving crashed on private property near Del Rey during the overnight hours on July 13.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office had not released the name of the victim as of press time on Thursday, July 13.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. July 12 and 4 a.m. on the 13th on private land in the 10000 block of East Jefferson Avenue, east of McCall Avenue and about a half-mile west of Del Rey. Officers from the Fresno CHP and medical emergency personnel responded to the scene.
According to the CHP, the man was driving a 1992 Polaris Trail Boss 350 ATV on private property when he failed to see a concrete standpipe directly in his path and struck the obstruction.
The driver was ejected from the ATV and suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a safety helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, CHP said, pending toxicology results. The investigation is ongoing.
