FRESNO – A man from Del Rey has been identified as the victim of a fatal all-terrain vehicle accident that recently happened on private property near Del Rey.

Juan Rios Chincoya, 46, was identified on July 18 by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as the victim of the ATV crash during the overnight hours of July 12-13 in the 10000 block of East Jefferson Avenue, about a half-mile west of Del Rey. It was unknown if the private property was owned by Chincoya.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Chincoya was driving a 1992 Polaris Trail Boss 350 north on the property between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. when he failed to see a concrete standpipe directly in his path and struck the obstruction.

Chincoya was ejected from the ATV and suffered fatal injuries, the CHP reported. He was not wearing a safety helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responding medical personnel. Alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the crash, CHP said in its initial report. However, toxicology reports from the crash are yet to be released.
