REEDLEY – Citing a change in banking behaviors and a move to consolidate in-person locations, Bank of America announced the closure of its Reedley branch coming next year.
The branch, located at 936 G St. in Reedley, will permanently close in August 2024 when its lease expires, said Britney Sheehan, Bank of America senior vice president and media relations manager. Branch employees will not lose their jobs and will instead be relocated to another location or moved to a different position.
“The decision to close a branch is never an easy one,” Sheehan said. “However, the pandemic significantly accelerated banking behaviors toward digital self-service platforms instead of traditional foot-traffic banking.”
Sheehan said that 90% of Bank of America clients utilize its digital banking options over in-person transactions, such as depositing checks “outside the walls of a branch” through mobile deposit and at ATMs.
In consideration of banking behavior changes, Sheehan said Bank of America regularly reviews its retail network presence to consider consolidating locations where there are either low in-store transactions or other branches nearby.
Bank of America has another branch — which it calls a financial center — five miles away in Dinuba, located at 240 E. Tulare St. Sheehan said there will also be a full-service remote ATM in Reedley for Bank of America clientele to use 24/7, the location of which has yet to be determined.
There is also a Bank of America ATM at the Kingsburg Savemart, located at 909 Sierra Ave., a branch in nearby Selma on Arrants Street and two branches in Visalia on Main Street and Mooney Boulevard.
According to Bank of America, the company has approximately 68 million customers and small business clients across the United States and operates roughly 3,900 retail financial centers, 15,000 ATMs and has 57 million verified users of its digital banking system.
Other in-person banking options in the Reedley area include Chase Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Mechanics Bank, Bank of the Sierra and Educational Employees Credit Union.
