Visalia man arrested over child abuse material

Tip-off leads to Youth Services Officers detaining the suspect for possessing disturbing images of child abuse

VISALIA – In a swift operation triggered by a tip, Visalia officers have apprehended a man for his possession of obscene pictures of children.

Just after 1 p.m. on Jan. 3, Youth Services Officers with the Visalia Police Department (VPD) arrested Michael Diaz, 65, for possession of child abuse material. The investigation began after the Youth Services Unit received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) stating a man living in Visalia was in possession of disturbing images of children.

Following this tip, officers served a search warrant at a home in the 1200 block of south Giddings St. During the search warrant, officers found evidence of child abuse material and arrested Diaz. He was transported and booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility.

Just after 4:30 p.m., VPD patrol officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the area of Mill Creek Parkway and McAuliff Street.

Officers discovered two men were working on a disabled vehicle on Mill Creek Parkway when a Toyota truck traveling eastbound hit the center divider and crashed into them. The collision resulted in one man’s death due to the severe injuries he sustained.

The driver of the Toyota was arrested. He is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.
