FRESNO – After what it described as a comprehensive national search, Saint Agnes Medical Center has filled out a prescription for change after finding its new chief executive.

In a Jan. 16, 2024 press release, the hospital announced that Dr. Gurvinder Kaul will be the new president and market leader.

For the last three years, Kaur was the chief medical officer and vice president at Adventist Health Central Valley Network. At Adventist, Kaur played a role in expanding patient services, including DaVinci robotics, palliative care, surgical services and outpatient cardiology diagnostics.

Kaur also served on the board of directors of Vituity. Prior to working at Central Valley, Kaur was the senior regional director of Vituity. According to its website, Vituity is a physician-owned, multispecialty healthcare partnership.

During her time at Vituity, Kaur oversaw hospitalists, post-acute care practices and emergency department practices.

“Because of her background in internal medicine, her tenure at Vituity, a national physician group and leadership position at Adventist, Dr. Kaur has a deep understanding of healthcare operations, physician practice dynamics, and an understanding of strategic knowledge of the emerging trends in navigating the complex landscape of the provider side of the healthcare industry,” said Odette Bolano, president and CEO of Trinity Health West Region.

Bolano added, “I am pleased to welcome Dr. Kaur as the most senior leader at Saint Agnes, focused on setting and leading the market strategy for Saint Agnes, and the talent and gifts she brings that will help strengthen our ministry in Fresno and across Trinity Health’s West Region.”

Kaur was born in India. In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles, where she continued her medical studies at the University of Southern California. She earned a master’s degree in health administration from the university. She completed her internal medicine residency at Los Angeles Medical Center.

Saint Agnes’ former CEO retired in 2023. An interim president served until Kaur’s appointment.

Saint Agnes was founded by the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1929. Saint Agnes’ first hospital, with 75 beds, was located at Fruit and Floradora avenues. It is owned by Trinity Health.

The hospital has five accredited physician residency and fellowship programs. The Saint Agnes Care network has 20 locations with over 80 providers in Fresno and Clovis. The network includes primary, specialty, and urgent care clinics.

As for Trinity Health, the company is a not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system. It is one of the country’s largest healthcare providers. Its network includes over 36,000 physicians and clinicians in 27 states.

Based in Livonia, Michigan, Trinity owns 101 hospitals, 126 continuing care facilities, 136 urgent care locations, and the second largest Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). According to its website, in 2023, Trinity invested $1.5 billion in its communities.
