Two Reedley residents die in car crash

Two-vehicle accident occurs at intersection on Parlier and Buttonwillow avenues

REEDLEY – Two Reedley residents died following a vehicle crash outside of Reedley one Monday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), at 3:30 p.m. on March 25, Maria Ayers, 40, was driving her Ford Focus eastbound on Parlier Avenue. Serjio Medina Leon, 58, was in the passenger seat. Sanger resident Peter Preciado, 54, was driving his Ford pickup truck northbound on Buttonwillow Avenue.

At the intersection of Parlier and Buttonwillow, Ayers failed to stop at the stop sign. Preciado did not have a stop sign in his lane. As he entered the intersection, he rammed the right side of the Focus, pinning Ayers and Leon. 

First responders were able to extricate the pinned occupants. Ayers was taken by ambulance to Adventist Medical Center in Reedley. She later succumbed to her injuries. Leon died at the scene. Preciado was not injured.

Officers from Reedley Police Department also responded to the accident. According to the CHP, the investigation is ongoing.
