ORANGE COVE – A fire in downtown Orange Cove last week resulted in a “total loss” to the building, according to the Orange Cove Fire Protection District (OCFPD).

The fire district responded to a structure fire reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 4 at an abandoned building near the intersection of Park Boulevard and 5th Street. Crews encountered a large trash fire inside an abandoned commercial building and reported that the fire quickly spread to the building.

There were no injuries, and OCFPD was unable to report a cause to the fire as of April 9. OCFPD received assistance from the Reedley Fire Department and contained the fire within approximately 45 minutes.

The building that burnt down was located on the south side of the alley behind the old Orange Cove Hardware Store building; that building was not impacted by the fire.

With structure fires occurring at multiple abandoned buildings in the area in recent months, OCFPD said residents should just be sure to report any suspicious activity they may see in an area.
