REEDLEY – A pedestrian died on Tuesday evening after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Reedley, the Reedley Police Department announced.

RPD said officers responded to a call at 7:52 p.m. on April 9 involving a vehicle and pedestrian collision in the 900 block of East Springfield Avenue. The pedestrian received immediate first aid and was transported to Reedley’s Adventist Health hospital, but later passed away as a result of significant injuries sustained from the collision.

“The Reedley Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the deceased pedestrian during this difficult time,” RPD said. “Our thoughts are with them as they cope with this tragic loss.”

According to a press release from RPD, a 69-year-old woman was driving west on Springfield Avenue when her vehicle hit a woman pedestrian, 72, who was crossing the street — not within a designated crosswalk – while pushing a walker.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. RPD said preliminary assessments show no signs of alcohol or drug use contributing to the accident.

“As the investigation into this incident continues, the Reedley Police Department urges all members of the community to exercise caution and vigilance while traveling on the roadways, prioritizing pedestrian safety and adherence to traffic regulations,” the press release said.
