VISALIA – Get ready to get back in the cage as 559 Fights returns to the Visalia Convention Center at 303 E. Acequia Ave. on Aug. 23. The last two shows had the two highest-selling gates in company history and 559 Fights 107 is ready to welcome back fans with three championship bouts.
In the Main Event, Bakersfield’s Julio Larrave (6-3) fights in his first defense of his 559 Fights Bantamweight Championship and CAMO State Championship, taking on a former foe in Clovis’ Johnny Diaz (4-2).
“Larrave has emerged as one of the best bantamweights in the state and he’s taking on a game talent in Johnny Diaz,” said Jeremy Luchau, 559 Fights CEO. “This is exactly the type of fight you want headlining a fight card.”
In the Co-Main event, the 559 Fights Lightweight title will be fought over by a pair of locals in Visalia’s Tyler Saelee (4-1-1) and Porterville’s Joey Sandoval (3-1) as they both look to be crowned champions in their second crack at the belt.
The lightweight title was recently vacated by Abraham Del Toro, who took his talents to the professional ranks.
“Saelee has proved himself time and time again as one of the top prospects in the Central Valley,” Luchau said. “Sandoval, despite a recent loss, is also hands down one of the top lightweights in California and deserving of this championship showdown.”
In the feature championship bout of the evening, Parlier’s George Burgos (3-2-1) battles Avenal’s Christopher Mendoza (2-1) to determine the new 559 Fights Flyweight Champion.
“It’s unfortunate when you lose fights on fight week, but Burgos shows some resilience ready to bounce back from his July fallout to compete in this August event against a tough prospect in Mendoza, who stepped up for us in short notice in our last event,” Luchau said.
Along with a trio of action-packed championship bouts, Central Valley fight fans will also be treated with the return of Jace Luchau of Selma and the 2-0 Jalene Delsid of Kingsburg to the 559 Fights cage.
“Two young athletes to look out for are Jalene Delsid and Jace Luchau,” Luchau said. “Both athletes grew up in the MMA community in Central California and have a ton of local support. We are excited to be the home where they chose to showcase their talents.”
Other local fighters looking to make a name for themselves at 559 Fights 107 include Visalia’s Dorian Hale (3-4-1), Visalia’s Brianna Stephens (0-0), Visalia’s Matthew Martinz (1-4), Visalia’s Manuel Ramirez-Lewis (1-0), Visalia’s Lorenzo Quintana (0-1) and Exeter’s Marshall Zachary (0-0).
The fights start at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are now on sale at www.559fights.com. General admission is $46.49 and VIP tickets range from $100.13 to $113.54.
