REEDLEY – With workers removing the remaining pieces of furniture and loading up a U-Haul truck, the Reedley Bank of America branch officially closed its doors on Aug. 27, 2024.
As reported by the Times, the Bank of America’s decision to close the branch, located at 936 G St. in Reedley, was prompted by a change in customers’ banking behaviors brought on by the pandemic.
“The decision to close a branch is never an easy one,” Bank of America Vice President Britney Sheehan told the Times in October. “However, the pandemic significantly accelerated banking behaviors toward digital self-service platforms instead of traditional foot-traffic banking.”
Colleen Haggerty, senior vice president of media relations, said since the pandemic, 90% of the bank’s customers rely on digital transactions.
“Given this, we saw a decline with in store foot traffic at this location and decided to not renew our lease at the Reedley financial center when it expired, and consolidated resources and employees to the Dinuba financial center five miles over,” said Haggerty.
The current ATM in Reedley will remain open until the Bank of America finalizes a location for a new full-service machine in the city.
Bank of America has another branch — which it calls a financial center — five miles away in Dinuba, located at 240 E. Tulare St. According to previous reports, Sheehan said there will also be a full-service remote ATM in Reedley for Bank of America clientele to use 24/7, the location of which has yet to be determined.
There is also a Bank of America ATM at the Kingsburg Savemart, located at 909 Sierra Ave., a branch in nearby Selma on Arrants Street and two branches in Visalia on Main Street and Mooney Boulevard.
According to Bank of America, the company has approximately 68 million customers and small business clients across the United States and operates roughly 3,900 retail financial centers, 15,000 ATMs and has 57 million verified users of its digital banking system.
Other in-person banking options in the Reedley area include Chase Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Mechanics Bank, Bank of the Sierra and Educational Employees Credit Union.
