KINGSBURG – An internet service outage on the morning of Sept. 4, 2024 was caused by a worker who struck a fiber optic cable in Parlier, according to Kingsburg Media Foundation.
Kingsburg Media Foundation (KMF) President and CEO Reggie Gierke informed customers that on Sept. 5 around 9 a.m., a third party contractor in Parlier stuck a marked fiber line. The damage to the line affected tower sites which, in turn, led to customers having trouble with and/or losing their service.
KMF dispatched repair crews to the location. As these crews attempted to make repairs, they discovered additional damage by the contractor. The crews had to completely reconstruct a large area of the network, according to the KMF customer communique.
Gierke said that all repairs were completed by 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“I know many of you rely on our services to run your business and I apologize for any inconvenience or loss this may have caused. We are already in the process of seeking reimbursement and will pass that on to our customers as appropriate,” Gierke said in the communique.
Gierke said KMF’s fiber provider/contractor is in the process of “constructing a more geographically separated path to ensure better redundancy.”
He added that KMF found a flaw in a back-up circuit for its phone services that caused the services to be unusable.
“We are already in the works to rectify this,” said Gierke.
