ORANGE COVE – The family of a woman killed in a recent traffic accident has established a GoFundMe account to defray funeral expenses and other costs associated with her burial.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Alma Diaz was on her way to her parents home on Oct. 16 to pick up her daughter. She was traveling on Hills Valley Road between Manning and Parlier avenues in Orange Cove when she was struck head on by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
CHP said the truck was attempting to pass a car in its lane. According to reports, Diaz’s vehicle was then struck by another vehicle. She died at the scene.
Diaz was a secretary at Jefferson Elementary School and had worked for Kings Canyon Unified School District for 13 years.
According to ABC30 Action News, more than 100 individuals turned out on Oct. 20 for a vigil for Diaz at the crash site. Attendees brought green balloons because green was Diaz’s favorite color. A roadside memorial has been set up at the scene.
Kings Canyon told ABC30, “Her kind and cheerful spirit will be remembered by students, staff and families for many years to come.”
To date, more than $40,000 has been donated to the GoFundMe account titled “Support for Alma Diaz’s Funeral Services,” which is more than double the $20,000 goal.
