REEDLEY – The Reedley Police Department arrested four individuals after engaging in a vehicle and foot pursuit that led officers outside of city limits.
RPD said the driver of a white Nissan Altima failed to yield when an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. The officer observed the vehicle “driving recklessly and swerving in and out of lanes,” RPD said in a press release, and pursued the vehicle past Reedley city limits when it failed to stop.
In the pursuit, the vehicle collided into a tree near the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Adams Avenue outside of Parlier. RPD said officers apprehended the driver and one passenger at the site of the collision, and two other passengers fled on foot but were located shortly after. No injuries were reported by anyone involved.
According to the press release, RPD arrested the suspected driver, Diego Torres Duarte, 19, of Parlier, and is charging him with driving under the influence, child endangerment and evading law enforcement while presenting a danger of serious bodily injury. The three passengers, identified only as male juveniles, were also arrested and will face misdemeanor charges.
RPD received assistance from multiple agencies, including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Air Support Unit, the press release said.
