KINGSBURG – Workhorse Group Inc. has announced that Kingsburg Truck Center has been awarded a contract that will supply Workhorse W4CC and W56 electric commercial trucks to California State agencies.
Awarded by the Department of General Services (DGS), this contract, announced on March 6, will streamline the procurement process for the truck center, making compliance with California’s Advanced Clean Fleet requirements more attainable. This move will be a key step towards reducing emissions and improving air quality.
“Being awarded this DGS contract is an important step forward in electrifying California’s fleet operations,” said Wes Lowe, owner of Kingsburg Truck Center, in a press release. “We are honored to play a pivotal role in this transition, making zero-emission solutions more accessible to state agencies.”
According to Workhorse, the W4CC is a Class 4 cab chassis which can be customized based on a company’s needs. The W56 can be acquired as a Class 5/6 van or as a stripped chassis, and sports a 10,000-pound payload.
In January of this year, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) withdrew its request for a federal waiver to enforce the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) regulations on federal and high-priority fleets. Regardless, state and local agencies must still comply with ACF requirements, including the mandated transition to zero-emission vehicles.
According to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the San Joaquin Valley has some of the nation’s worst air quality, and consistently fails federal standards for smog and particulate pollution. Truck traffic is a significant factor of this, making the move to zero-emissions vehicles a significant step.
