ORANGE COVE – The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office (FSO) arrested a 16-year-old boy suspected of shooting and killing a man in Orange Cove.
The Orange Cove Police Department responded to reports of shots being fired outside at the Orchard Village Apartment Complex on South Avenue around 1:10 p.m. on March 16, FSO said. There, officers were directed inside an apartment where they found a man, 34, with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was conscious on the scene and was transported to Reedley Hospital but later died.
Police identified the shooting suspect as a teen boy and developed information about where he might be, according to an FSO press release. FSO patrol deputies were guided by the FSO helicopter to the teen’s location “a short distance from the apartments” and he was taken into custody.
According to FSO, the suspect and victim knew each other but FSO has not established a motive for the shooting. The FSO Homicide Unit is handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
