REEDLEY – A shooting in a Reedley neighborhood caused some Kings Canyon Unified School District (KCUSD) schools to go into lockdown midday on Friday.
Around 11:35 a.m. on May 2, the Reedley Police Department (RPD) said it received multiple calls about a shooting in the 900 block of East El Dorado Avenue, just behind the baseball field on the Grant Middle School campus. Upon arrival, officers located a male juvenile who had sustained gunshot wounds.
RPD said the victim was first transported to Reedley’s Adventist Health Hospital and was later transferred to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported seeing two male suspects fleeing the area on foot, according to an RPD press release.
Both Grant Middle School and Mountain View School were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure due to their proximity to the incident. KCUSD sent out an alert around 1:20 p.m. on Friday to state that the schools had been placed into lockdown, students were safe and RPD had secured the scene.
“Once officers determined that the suspects had run away from the area and posed no ongoing threat to the campuses, the lockdowns were lifted,” the RPD press release said.
