DINUBA – Dozens of community members and the Dinuba Chamber of Commerce came out to L Street in downtown Dinuba to get a taste of the newest addition to the city’s dining scene.
El Don, a Mexican and Japanese fusion restaurant by Don Sanchez, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 31, and had so many people hoping to try out the restaurant that just 20 minutes into opening, there was already a 40 minute wait. The restaurant is owned by community members Gabby Sanchez and her husband, who is best known as Don Sanchez or “Sushi Don Sanchez” on social media.
“We never thought just a little side hustle or something was gonna get this big, but it’s all thanks to you guys, thank God and my team, my family here,” Don Sanchez said. “I appreciate you guys, you are always showing out for us, thank you guys so much again for coming out, and I hope you guys love this place and enjoy it, because we put our heart and hard work into this place.”
Sanchez explained how the restaurant grew from him testing out different recipes from the back of his wife’s salon to a brick-and-mortar location in Dinuba. Fusion items on El Don’s menu include dishes like the hibachi burrito and fried and natural sushi, including a tres quesos roll, a tempura roll and a jalapeño roll. El Don is located at 161 South L St. and is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
