FRESNO COUNTY – With softball in the Tri-County Conference-Kings Division now complete, numerous queens of the diamond in The Mid Valley Times region were recognized for their outstanding play.
The Reedley High Pirates, despite a 10-17 season overall, had several players rise above the others to emerge as some of the best in the TCCKD. Pirates’ junior Jamilah Taylor was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year for her top notch play with the glove.
And while Taylor didn’t boot a lot of grounders or misplay too many pop flies, she also came through with the bat. Taylor ranked third in the division with a .439 batting average. And when Taylor got on base, she ran amok, swiping 17 bags, ranking second in the Kings in that category.
The Kings Division First Team is littered with plenty of Pirates, Bears and Vikings, Parker Woods, Ava Irigoyen and Alyanna “Yaya” Gonzales represented Kingsburg High on the First Team. Reedley High’s Fannie Urbetia also found her way on the First Team, as did Selma High’s Audreena Duron.
The Second Team also boasts an impressive array of talent. The Pirates continue to pillage the awards, as Ariana Zarate and Saige Hellum shared in Second Team honors. For the Vikings, Reygan Jones’ potent bat produced a .426 batting average and .556 slugging percentage. And Selma High’s Gabby Pena and Jayleen Sisavanh round out the honors.
Honorable Mentions are also heavy with the Pirates’ and Vikings’ presence. Reedley junior catcher/third baseman Jocelyn Fonseca grabbed her honors after ranking in the top-10 in the Kings in batting (.385), RBIs (21) and slugging (.603).
Mariah Contreras, Scarlett Laita and Averie Croissant are the terrific Vikings’ trio earning Honorable Mentions. Contreras, a freshman, scored 16 runs and also ranked fourth in the Kings with 15 stolen bases. Croissant was one of the division’s top run producers, driving in 21 runs while batting a steady .346.
