REEDLEY – As temperatures continue to rise so does the need for water, and members of the Reedley Lions Club worked to prevent others from going thirsty.
On July 10, the Reedley Lions hosted a bottled water drive at Pioneer Park from 5-8 p.m. Community members came with their contributions, and Lions members helped load cases of water into a trailer for delivery. The donations are being taken to Poverello House on July 12, and given to those in need.
“We’re out here trying to make a difference for everybody, and that’s what we’re supposed to do,” said Nick Lopez, a Lions Club member of two years. “That’s our job and we enjoy every moment of it; making a difference one water bottle at a time.”
Poverello House offers a wide range of services such as food, shelter and social services to those less fortunate. During the summer months the house has been quickly running out of bottled water, so the organization reached out to the Reedley Lions for some assistance.
Outside of the community drive at Pioneer Park, Reedley Lions Club Second Vice President Ramon Romero drove to donors’ homes to pick up additional cases of water, and received Venmo payments from others to go out and purchase cases of water.
Thanks to all of the generous donations and hard work from the Lions, more than 100 cases of water were gathered for Poverello House.
Lopez and Romero noted that under the club’s new president and leadership team, the community can look forward to other ways to get involved in the city of Reedley.
