SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY – Following an overnight vote from the House of Representatives, public radio stations like the Valley’s own KVPR are losing all federal funding.
At 12:04 a.m. on July 18, the House passed the Recissions Act of 2025, a move that will cut $9 billion from numerous foreign aid programs and public broadcasting entities. The vote was 216-213, with Democrats voting against and all but two Republicans voting in favor.
“This is a devastating decision for the millions of people who rely on public media everyday,” said KVPR President and General Manager Joe Moore in a press release. “We’re moving into an uncharted future, but KVPR’s commitment to you remains unwavering.”
According to a statement by KVPR, they will lose $175,000 of federal funds, or 7% of the station’s overall funding.
During this time of uncertainty, KVPR is calling upon its supporters to help make up for the loss. The station notes that monthly donors who increase their amount by $5 or more can greatly assist the station’s efforts to keep the service running at full capacity.

The deadline for this rescission package to be passed was Friday, June 18, and is the reason for the rushed overnight vote. The original bill sought to rescind $9.4 billion, but this was lowered by a Senate amendment and was sent back to the House after a 51-48 vote.
All that remains is for the bill to be sent to, and signed by, President Trump.
