Farmersville man dies in Fresno County crash

FRESNO COUNTY – A young man from Farmersville died in a single-vehicle crash in Fresno County just south of Parlier. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, Matthew Canizalez, 20, of Farmersville, was driving a 2007 Toyota Scion southbound on Zediker Avenue, south of Huntsman Avenue, just after 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 12. Canizalez lost control of the vehicle and began to rotate clockwise, traveling off the roadway in a southwesterly direction. 

CHP said the driver’s side of the car struck a large raised concrete irrigation well, causing significant intrusion into the driver’s compartment and critical injuries to the driver. CHP, emergency medical personnel and Cal Fire units responded to the scene. 

Cal Fire used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the press release, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, CHP is still investigating why he lost control of the vehicle and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors. 

The collision is still under investigation by CHP.
