ORANGE COVE – An upcoming resource fair will give residents of Orange Cove the chance to enjoy free food, learn about local support services and potentially win some prizes.
On Oct. 23, the Orange Cove Community Center will hold an open house and resource fair presented by the Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation (Fresno AHF). From 6-8 p.m., residents and local business owners can learn tips for financial literacy, engage with local support services and celebrate the ongoing support of local businesses.
“What we really want to do is recognize all of the efforts of the families and small business owners to keep going, even when sometimes it isn’t easy,” said David Preciado, community service manager for Fresno AHF. “This is a recognition of their efforts, and we want to provide them with resources.”
The organizations present will be giving information on education, health, immigration, finances and more, all aimed at bettering quality of life in Orange Cove. Preciado noted that a key component of the event is to equip residents with the knowledge of what’s available to them, and to get them started on the path to home ownership and general financial wellbeing.
“We know that information is power, so we want to give that to them,” Preciado said.
To make the evening feel like a true celebration of the community, guests will be treated to free food and entertainment ranging from dancing to prize raffles.
Students will have the chance to enter the raffle to win an iPad, families can enter to win a $500 grant and local business owners can win a $1,000 grant to put toward their business.
Representatives from SoCalGas gas will also be present and available to answer questions regarding the proposed hydrogen blending demonstration that has been an active topic of discussion in the community. Attendees will also be able to sign up for a tour of the [H2] Innovation Experience, North America’s first-ever hydrogen powered microgrid and home.
This resource fair is part of Fresno AHF’s Confía Rural program, which aims to connect with and give back to families and businesses in the Valley’s rural areas. Confía Rural has done work with eight rural cities, and has partnered with 16 other organizations to help bring events to life and educate those who call the Valley home.
