MADERA – The Reedley College women’s golf team is getting ready to sharpen their claws and shine their clubs in preparation for defense of last season’s Nor Cal Regional Championship.
The Lady Tigers started their playoff run on the upswing at the Madera Golf and Country Club with some impressive rounds on the greens.
On day one of the two day tournament, Nov. 9, Reedley led the field by 10 strokes, shooting an excellent 18-hole score of 320. Jacie Johnson (Central Valley Christian) led the pack with a 77 (+4) and Tessa Hernandez (Clovis North) was hot on her tail, finishing one shot back at 78.
Fellow Tigers’ teammates Sarah Randolph (Lubbock, Texas) shot an impressive 81 and Marissa Martin (Clovis East) finished with a final score of 84.
“It was great to be able to compete against the best teams in all of California on a neutral golf course, and come out on top,” said Reedley College women’s coach Scott Stark. “It shows the ability to win away from our comfort zone…what they’ve been doing is pretty impressive.”
Completed results from the tournament are not available at press time. The Tigers won the conference title and are currently undefeated this season.
With Reedley expected to run the rest of the field, their next step in defending their title is just around the corner.
Depending on the outcome of the results, the Lady Tigers will continue their title repeat quest at the 3C2A Women’s Golf Championships at The River Course in Solvang, Calif., on Nov. 16 and 17. This is the same course that the Tigers won the State Preview Tournament on Oct. 12.
