HUNTINGTON LAKE – California ski resorts are now open, including China Peak above Fresno and Mammoth Mountain above Madera.
Early snows have built up a 26-inch snowpack at China Peak while Mammoth reports a 40-inch base at their 11,000-foot summit with some 30% of trails already open, according to their websites. The powder could continue to improve this week as two storms are forecast to hit Central California, one on Dec. 4 and another on Dec. 9.
Other California ski resorts are open as well. On Nov. 25, Mountain High already had 8%-10% of trails open, and Heavenly had 2% of trails open. Also open were Palisades Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Donner Ski Ranch, Boreal Mountain, Snow Summit, Snow Valley, Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge and Soda Springs.
Northstar was projected to open on Nov. 28 but was still waiting for better conditions as of press time. Below is a list of other resorts opening soon:
- Kirkwood: Projected for Dec. 5, 2025;
- Badger Pass: Projected for Dec. 5, 2025;
- Mt. Shasta: Projected for Dec. 10, 2025;
- Homewood: Projected for Dec. 12, 2025; and
- Bear Mountain: Projected for Dec. 12, 2025.
