SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Public Health has issued a warning against the TRE House brand Magic Mushroom due to harmful ingredients.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has warned the public to not eat TRE House brand Magic Mushroom products after they were found to contain illegal and dangerous psychedelic compounds in an announcement made on Dec. 11. These ingredients have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects including hospitalization and in some cases death, according to the CDPH.
In its report, the CPDH stated that the TRE House brand Magic Mushroom gummies, chocolate bars and syrup were found to contain an analogue of psilocin, which is a Drug Enforcement Administration schedule 1 drug. All of the products contain 4-Acetoxy-DET (4-Acetoxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine), while most also contain 4-Acetoxy-DMT (4-Acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine). Both of these are illegal psychedelic drugs.
These products have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects which could possibly cause hospitalization and even death. Misuse, overuse or negative interactions with other medications is a high risk, especially without oversight or consultation with medical professionals.
These may be particularly dangerous for young children who might consume them under the assumption that these are normal candies or syrups.
No illnesses were reported, but the CDPH noted concerns about individuals seeking psychedelic mushroom products for therapeutic effects running the risk of a serious or life-threatening illness if they consume this product.
CDPH has been investigating the brand owner, TRE House, in Chatsworth, California, as well as their contract manufacturers. Laboratory testing has determined that these chocolate bars also contained synthetic mushroom-based psychoactive drugs. More than 1,000 pounds of TRE House brand gummies were embargoed and subsequently voluntarily destroyed.
The parties that are responsible may be subject to further enforcement action including civil or criminal penalties pending additional investigational work.
This warning will apply to all of these products regardless of lot numbers or date information on the packaging.
