FRESNO – Sweeten up your next blood donation with a free box of Girl Scout cookies, while supplies last.
A press release on Feb. 26 announced Central California Blood Center has partnered with Girl Scouts to bring back the “Give a Pint, Get a Box of Cookies” campaign from March 2 to March 14. During this two week event, all blood donors who give at a CCBC donation center or mobile blood drive will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies as a thank-you for helping save lives, while supplies last.
“We’re constantly asking for folks to come in, roll up their sleeves and really help save a life, because just one unit of donated blood can actually save three lives,” said Abby Minong, director of PR and marketing for CCBC in an interview. “So it’s a huge impact that each donation can do.”
March 2 will kick off the campaign with an event at the Jenny Eller Donor Center, 4343 W. Herndon Ave., where local girl scouts will be on site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. promoting the campaign, encouraging donors and helping raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations in the community.
Minong noted that the two kinds of Girl Scout cookies that will be available are either the thin mints or caramel delights. She also said at the event on March 2, there may be opportunities for people to purchase cookies from the Girl Scouts as well.
“We’re excited to relaunch this campaign. Our partnership with the Girl Scouts gives us a meaningful and engaging way to highlight the importance of community service,” said Christine Hayes, President and CEO of the Central California Blood Center, in the press release. “The need for blood donations is constant, and this campaign reminds us that even small actions, like giving blood, can have a life-saving impact.”
According to the announcement, this partnership highlights their shared commitment to service, leadership and making a positive impact. Every blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, supporting local hospitals and patients throughout the Central Valley.
This is the first time in four years that this collaborative campaign is taking place, according to Minong.
“It’s … nice to reconnect and collaborate again with the Girl Scouts. So we’re just excited to bring this opportunity, make this available for the public,” said Minong.
“Girl Scouts are built on a foundation of courage, confidence, and character – and service is at the heart of everything we do,” said Dr. Russel Statham, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central California South, in the press release. “Through this campaign, our organization is proud to support the Central California Blood Center and encourage the community to donate blood and help save lives right here at home. It’s a powerful example of how young leaders can make a meaningful impact in the communities they care about.”
