Reedley parks to close in April for fertilization

REEDLEY – Reedley residents should plan their picnics and playground playdates now, as all city parks will be closed to the public for two weeks at the beginning of April. 

The city of Reedley announced that all city parks will be closed from March 30 to April 13 while the Reedley Public Works Department conducts fertilization treatment to the parks. These closures are in the interest of public safety as they limit people’s contact with the fertilizer used to treat the city’s green spaces. 

Mowing at city parks will also be suspended for approximately three weeks to allow for proper fertilizer absorption and optimal growth, according to the city. Fertilizing parks helps provide essential nutrients to the ground, promotes lush growth, enhances disease resistance, improves soil structure and optimizes park aesthetics, according to the announcement. 

Impacted parks include Pioneer Park, Citizens Park, Smith’s Ferry Park, Reedley Beach, Cricket Hollow, C.F. Mueller Park, the Reedley Sports Park, Columbia Park and the splash pad at Trimble Park. 

City parks will reopen to the public on April 14. The soccer fields on the west side of the Reedley Sports Park will be closed for an additional week as part of the fertilization treatment efforts and will reopen on April 21. 

The city of Reedley asks that people stay off the grass throughout this timeframe.
