FRESNO AND TULARE COUNTIES – Although the midterm general election is still seasons away, the California state primary will be ready for voters to weigh in on candidates sooner than they know it.
The primary election, in which voters will have the chance to select their top choice for a variety of statewide administration offices and local district offices, is scheduled for June 2. Candidate filing periods closed in mid-March, but those still interested in pursuing an elected office can file official statements of write-in candidacy between April 6 and May 19.
At the ballot box, voters will consider candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, California State Assembly, even-numbered California State Senate districts, governor, secretary of state, attorney general and more.
To register to vote in California, visit registertovote.ca.gov or call the California Secretary of State’s voter registration hotline at 800-345-8683. To find which local districts you reside in, visit the website for your county election’s office and enter your address into the “find my district/your district” section.
The last day to register to vote for the primary election is May 18. Voters can visit their county elections office or vote center on or before election day to complete a conditional, or “same-day” voter registration after May 18.
County elections officials should begin mailing ballots by May 4, and secure ballot drop-off locations will open on May 5. Ballots can be dropped off at one of these locations, at the county elections office or returned by mail. Visit the county elections office website for ballot drop-off and vote center locations.
To help local voters understand what they will see on their ballots, Mineral King Publishing has compiled a list of all candidates for district and county seats that will appear on the ballot for residents in the Fresno County and Tulare County areas. The list does not include candidates for statewide office; residents can refer to the California Secretary of State’s office for more information on those candidates.
In addition to candidates for elected office, some Fresno County residents will vote on a special public safety transaction and use tax measure in the city of Kingsburg. Some Tulare County residents will vote on a parcel assessment measure for the Exeter Public Cemetery District and others will vote on a bond for the Sequoia Union Elementary School District.
