SELMA – A section of Highway 99 near Selma got a little hotter than anticipated this weekend after a car accident occurred between a fuel and box truck.
On Aug. 8, multiple units in Fresno County responded to a fiery traffic collision between a fuel tanker and box truck on Highway 99, near Second Street in Selma. According to reports, the semi-truck involved in the accident was carrying 8,600 gallons of fuel, and hit a box truck that was waiting for assistance on the shoulder of the highway.
Despite the intensity of the fire, which resulted in massive black smoke clouds, both drivers were able to safely exit their vehicles and only suffered minor injuries.
In an announcement, the Fresno California Highway Patrol stated this crash is a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong on the highway. The patrol reminded drivers to stay alert, pay attention and be aware of the traffic around you.
“A moment of distraction or an unsafe drift of your vehicle can have serious consequences,” the announcement said. “Give yourself space, check your mirrors and blind spots, and always know what’s happening around your vehicle.”
Crews from the CHP in Fresno, Selma Fire Department and CAL FIRE Fresno-Kings Unit/Fresno County Fire Protection District responded to the incident.
