DINUBA — The city is inviting residents and their furry friends to a fun day at the park for the annual Dinuba Dog Days event.
Sponsored by over 15 organizations including the Jimmie Low family, Dog Days will take place on Oct. 3 starting at 11 a.m. with activities planned at Nebraska and Jimmie Low Dog Park. Free hot dogs will also be provided by the Dinuba Lions Club.
Attendees can look forward to watching the dog parade, and can register their own pets for the dog contest scheduled later that day. Dogs will compete in “best” categories ranging from best fetch to best costume to the best at doggie musical chairs.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and costs $10. Other events include canine demonstrations from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and a special appearance by Sparky, the Dinuba Fire Department’s costume mascot.
Exhibitors will offer a number of dog-related services, including “low cost” vaccinations from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., $10 microchipping, dog licensing and nail trimming. Additionally, the event will feature adoption opportunities for attendees hoping to bring home a furry friend of their own, with all adoption fees waived.
“These animals need a forever home,” event coordinator for Dinuba Parks and Community Services Heather Leiferman said. “We also want to educate the community on how important it is to keep your dogs healthy.”
Guests can enter a raffle to win one of three prize packages by taking part in the giant ball drop, back again for the third year in a row. Tennis balls are available for purchase at $20, with up to 200 balls available in total.
Prizes include a tailgate package with Fresno State football tickets, an ice chest and grill; a golfing package including four rounds of golf at Ridge Creek golf course and a $150 gift card for a local restaurant; and a dog package featuring a custom made Tuff Shed dog house, dog bed, dog food and pool toys.
Attendees do not have to be present to win the raffle. Additional raffle opportunities are available starting at $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Tulare County Animal Services and Jimmie Low Dog Park, according to Leiferman.
