Officers uncover stolen mail and related items during traffic stop, arrest three suspects

SELMA – In a recent operation, officers thwarted the plans of suspects engaged in mail theft, putting an abrupt stop to their scheme and delivering them to the Fresno County Jail.

On Wednesday, April 3, at approximately 12:25 a.m., the Selma Police Department was dispatched to Cleveland and Valley View Street for a report of individuals possibly committing mail theft and then fleeing the scene.

Upon arrival, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description. Officers identified three occupants in the vehicle, one of which was on felony probation. 

During the investigation, officers discovered various pieces of stolen mail and mail theft-related items. All three suspects were subsequently arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for various mail theft related charges.

The Selma Police Department is working in conjunction with the United States Postal Service regarding the recent increase in mail thefts from community mailboxes.
