REEDLEY – The Reedley Police Department (RPD) announced it has made significant progress in identifying the juvenile who was recently caught on video abusing a guinea pig.

On April 17, at about 9 p.m., RPD responded to an incident in the 1400 block of E. Springfield Avenue. The individual who made the call recorded video of a young male repeatedly striking a guinea pig in the front yard of their home. After the attacks, the individual fled the scene. The animal has since died.

On April 19, RPD posted an update on its Facebook page regarding the ongoing investigation. According to the update, the suspect has been identified as a 12-year-old Reedley resident. Police did not release the individual’s name.

On its Facebook page, RPD wrote, “We appreciate the support and patience of our community as we continue to work diligently towards ensuring justice is served. Rest assured, we remain steadfast in our commitment to upholding the safety and well-being of all residents, including our cherished animal companions. Thank you for your cooperation and continued vigilance.”

RPD is working with the Kings Canyon Unified School District and the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office to determine what criminal charges the district attorney will file against the youth.
