Detectives catch murder suspect hiding out in Orosi

Tulare County officers arrest couple in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last December

TULARE COUNTY – A husband and wife duo have been arrested following a shooting that occurred in Orosi at the end of last year.

Around 11:30 a.m. on May 14, detectives with the Tulare County Sheriff’s CATTCH unit arrested Alejandro Moreno for a murder that occurred late last year. Moreno was found hiding with family in Orosi and taken into custody without incident.

Detectives also arrested his wife, Martha Miranda, for harboring a wanted suspect. Both suspects were booked into the Tulare County Jail.

Moreno’s crime occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2023, according to reports. Deputies were called to the 12400 Block of Ave 413 in Orosi for a shooting victim. 

When the deputies arrived on scene, they found the victim, Ruben Trevino, suffering from a gunshot wound. Trevino was taken to a local hospital where he died. Through their investigation, homicide detectives identified Moreno as the murder suspect.

May 15

This week, five fugitives were added to the Sheriff’s Top 10 Most Wanted Criminals in Hiding. One of the fugitives, Ellen Joanel Hammon, was apprehended that same day, according to reports from the TCSO. 

Ask for the remaining four, the sheriff’s office is asking for any information that might assist in finding them.

The four fugitives included are:

  • Jesus Arroyo, 21, of Tulare is wanted for multiple sex crimes against a person under the age of 18, possession of illegal weapons and obstructing and resisting a police officer.
  • Mariaelena Serena Ramirez, 23, of Dinuba is wanted for sex crimes against a person under the age of 18.
  • Michael Jones, 41, of Porterville is wanted for three felony arrest warrants for child molestation of a victim under the age of 14.
  • Heath Daniel Branch, 43, of Exeter and Porterville is wanted for vehicle theft, grand theft and parole violations from other states.

May 13

Around 2:40 p.m., deputies with the sheriff’s office were called to Rups Market in the 1500 Block of E. Springville in Porterville for a carjacking.

When they arrived, they learned the suspect dragged his girlfriend out of the store and forced her into the back of the car. The victim was able to escape unharmed, but the suspect drove off. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at 559-733-6218.

May 10

Just after 11:30 a.m., deputies were called to the TripCo Gas Station in the 20000 Block of Rd 232 in Lindsay for a shooting. When they arrived, they found Andrew Gonzalez, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies rendered medical aid and Gonzalez was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Through their investigation, homicide detectives identified David Vielma, 23, as the suspect. Around 10:30 p.m. that same Friday, with help from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Air Support, Vielma was tracked down and taken into custody just outside of Poplar. Detectives also arrested Jasmin Valencia, 21, for accessory to murder.
