REEDLEY – Local law enforcement is investigating a suspected homicide after a man was found dead in an orchard just outside Reedley city limits.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office (FSO) said in a July 8 press release that Santos Rios Ventura, 46, was discovered by Reedley police officers and emergency medical services personnel in the area of Buttonwillow Avenue and Springfield Avenue. Reedley first responders were dispatched to the scene around 8 p.m. June 30 after receiving a report of a “possible injured man” near the intersection.

“Officers with Reedley Police and EMS personnel were first to arrive to the area,” the press release said. “They found a man on the ground in an orchard. A further look revealed the man was deceased.”

The deputy coroner on scene found the man had injuries consistent with a homicide, the press release said. FCSO homicide detectives are running the investigation due to the orchard’s location, which is just east of Reedley city limits and in county jurisdiction.

FCSO said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the case should contact FSO detectives Oscar Iniguez at 559-600-8201 or Jesse Gloria at 559-600-8217. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867 or online. Individuals with information may be eligible for a cash reward, the press release said. The case reference number is 24-7484.
