REEDLEY – The Reedley Police Department apprehended a man accused of attempting to rob the Wells Fargo Bank on 11th Street in downtown Reedley.
According to a press release from RPD, officers responded to the bank at approximately 9 a.m. on Jan. 4 after receiving a report of an attempted robbery. The suspect, identified through surveillance as Manuel Ortiz Romero, has been transported to the Fresno County Jail and charged with attempted robbery.
RPD said that Romero entered the bank on that Saturday morning and approached a teller while they were assisting a customer. Romero then attempted to grab cash from the teller but was unsuccessful and became upset. He reached over the teller’s counter and started to throw items while yelling, “I need some money man,” the press release said.
Romero then led officers on a search to apprehend him after he fled the bank on foot. RPD reported that officers contacted Romero at his home at approximately 11 a.m. on Jan. 4 and interviewed him. At that time, RPD said Romero “confirmed he was not a customer of the bank and visited the bank ‘for fun.’”
