DINUBA – One man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after what the Dinuba Police Department said was an attempted murder-suicide.
According to a press release issued by the Dinuba Police Department (DPD), police officers responded to a call for a welfare check at approximately 9:06 p.m. on April 1 in the 900 block of Gardenia Avenue on the northwest side of the city. Officers received a report that someone was holding a gun to a woman’s head at the location.
On arrival, a woman, 28, with two gunshot wounds to the chest exited the house and collapsed in the street. She was taken away from the residence to an ambulance and was transported to a local hospital, where she was immediately taken into surgery.
At the time of the press release, which DPD sent out shortly after midnight on April 2, the woman was listed in critical condition. Dinuba Police Chief Abel Iriarte later said she was in critical but stable condition.
DPD said the woman told officers there was a man inside the house with a gun. Officers at the scene set up a perimeter and attempted to make contact with anyone inside the residence but were unsuccessful. At that time, they used a drone to clear the interior of the house and were able to see a man lying on the ground, not moving, with a firearm nearby.
Officers then entered the residence and found the man, identified as Jesus Murrillo, 26, with a single gunshot wound to the chest; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Iriarte said police believe the gunshot was self-inflicted.
DPD was told that Murrillo and the woman were dating and have two young children together. The children were not at the residence during the incident and are known to be safe, Iriarte said.
DPD detectives are investigating the incident as an apparent attempted murder-suicide and will not be releasing the identity of the woman involved at this time. Officers do not believe there are any additional suspects.

This is the second suspected murder-suicide to occur in Dinuba within the last month after Amie Porras and Jordan Porras, both 33, were found dead on March 18. The two incidents were not related.
Regarding domestic violence, Iriarte said his message to the community would be that it is real and “it happens pretty much every day, no matter the size of the community, no matter the location, poor, rich or anything like that; it’s reality.”
