REEDLEY – The Reedley Police Department reported that it has made an arrest related to an ongoing child abuse investigation.
In an April 22 press release, RPD said Rosa Rios, 33, was arrested and booked on three felony charges including torture, assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse likely to cause great bodily injury or death. Rios is suspected of inflicting severe child abuse on a 5-year-old boy.
The investigation is related to a call RPD received at approximately 11:30 a.m. on March 13 from Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Fresno. The press release said Reedley police were notified of a 5-year-old boy who had been admitted to the trauma unit with severe burns on his body.
Detectives responded to the call and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances of the injuries; the child was admitted to the burn unit and is still undergoing treatment, RPD said. He sustained second- and third-degree burns caused by exposure to hot water.
“This remains an active investigation and detectives are working closely with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office to submit a thorough and complete case for prosecution,” the press release said.
