REEDLEY – A 17-year-old male juvenile has been arrested by the Reedley Police Department (RPD) in connection to reports of shots fired in northwest Reedley.
The juvenile was booked into the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Campus on seven charges: attempted homicide, brandishing of a firearm, minor in possession of a firearm, minor in possession of ammunition, assault with a firearm, carrying a firearm in a public place and possession of an assault weapon.
According to an April 28 press release, RPD received a “flood” of 911 calls around 10:30 a.m. on April 27 related to shots being fired in the 2300 block of North Thompson Avenue. One person reported she was shot at multiple times by someone using a rifle.
RPD said officers arriving on scene identified the house the suspect entered after the incident and ordered all occupants to exit; RPD temporarily detained all occupants of the house. During the course of the investigation, RPD detectives identified the 17 year old as the suspect who fired the shots.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the house and a vehicle believed to be related to the incident. The press release said there RPD located an illegally modified assault rifle determined to be a “ghost gun,” an unlicensed privately manufactured weapon.
According to the press release, RPD believes the incident was “an escalation of an ongoing feud between two rival criminal street gangs.”
