REEDLEY – The Reedley Police Department (RPD) is reminding residents that there is zero tolerance for illegal fireworks following a recent vegetation fire.

On May 4, at approximately 7 p.m., RPD officers responded to a fire in a dirt field in the 1900 block of North Hollywood Ave. Officers determined upon inspection that the fire had been caused by an illegal aerial firework.

Officers spoke with a female resident at the scene and determined that she had ignited the firework that caused the fire. The resident was issued a citation with a $1,000 fine for negligent discharge of a firework.

As firework season approaches, RPD reminds the community that there will be zero-tolerance enforcement. Anyone found igniting illegal fireworks will be issued a $1,000 fine. The department urges all to celebrate responsibility for the sake of public safety.
