SELMA – A fugitive wanted for two counts of attempted murder and felony firearm charges has been found.
Joseph Mejia, 24, of Selma was arrested in Lake County on Aug. 20. Mejia has been on the run for over a year for two counts of attempted murder and multiple felony firearm charges relating to various incidents in Selma.

The arrest was made through collaborative efforts between Selma Police Department (PD) detectives and the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fresno and Bay Area Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.
Following the murder attempts and firearm incidents, arrest warrants were obtained for Mejia and he was considered armed and dangerous. Information was obtained in recent months that indicated that Mejia had fled the region, causing Selma PD to partner with the U.S. Marshals Office.
After months of investigation and following leads, Mejia was eventually tracked down to Lake County and the arrest was made.
Mejia was booked into Fresno County Jail and the district attorney’s office will be filing charges for two attempted homicides with no bail. Multiple firearms-related charges will also be filed, with bail for these charges set at $3,000,000.
If convicted, Mejia faces 64 years to life in prison.
