TULARE COUNTY – The Tulare County Resource Management Agency, known as the RMA, is currently warning the public about a possible new scam that is targeting residents and businesses through fake invoices impersonating the Tulare County Planning Commission.
A local resident has recently reported receiving a fraudulent invoice over email that was totaling more than $10,000. The scammers use line items like “detailed subdivision layout” and “contract staff and professional consultant fees,” according to an announcement from the RMA office.
Although the invoice appeared official, it was not connected in any way to the County of Tulare, the RMA or the planning commission. The county emphasized that it does not send any unsolicited invoices of this nature.
Legitimate invoices from the RMA are usually mailed through the U.S. Postal service unless otherwise requested by the recipient. Anyone who received a suspicious invoice should immediately verify its authenticity by contacting the RMA directly at rma@tularecounty.ca.gov or 559-624-7000.
If you believe you may have been targeted or defrauded, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations at 559-636-5410.
