Anita Rae Worthley

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Anita Rae Worthley passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 28, 2024. She is reunited with many of her family and friends, and the love of her life Jack where they are truly dancing with the stars.

Anita Rae Worthley
1933–2024

Born Anita Rae Bartlett on Aug. 8, 1933 in Cayucos, Calif., she moved with her family to Sultana, Calif., at the young age of 2 years and resided here for the rest of her life. Anita was a born homemaker, an excellent cook, seamstress, and caregiver. She loved working in her yard and spent her days among her flowers until her passing. Family was her greatest joy, and she was most thankful for living to see and enjoy her nine great-grandchildren. Always quick with a smile and a hug, Anita was, in turn, loved by all who knew her including her church family, dancing friends, neighbors, or friends of her immediate family.

Anita is survived by her two children, Cher Kent and husband Gary, and Steve Worthley and wife Vicki; her grandchildren Jonathan Worthley, Elizabeth Ronan, Jessica Yee, William Worthley, Nicole Donat, and Andrew Worthley. Predeceased family members include her parents, James and Virginia Bartlett; husband, Alfred Jackson Worthley; and grandson Dusty Ragsdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Dinuba Christian Church, Alta District Historical Society, or the donor’s favorite charity.

Akiko Yorizane

Akiko Yorizane was born on Aug. 4, 1922 to Matsuo Mitani and Wataro Yorizane in Reedley, Calif. She was the youngest and had five older brothers: Ben, Joe, Ban, Shaw and Tak. The family bought a small farm outside of Parlier in 1938 and with the help of neighbors were able to keep it through World War II. Like 120,000 other Japanese Americans their family was incarcerated. The Yorizane family was sent to Gila River in Arizona. During the war, two of her brothers fought for the United States on the European front while she, her mother and brother, Shaw relocated to Cleveland, Ohio.

Akiko Yorizane
1922–2023

After the war ended the family moved back to the Parlier farm and expanded it through the years. She took care of her brothers, Ban and Tak, lifelong bachelors while working at Four Star Television in Reedley. She was known to the downtown Reedley denizens who affectionately knew her as “Aki.” She worked for 42 years, retiring in 1999 and moved to Reedley. The siblings sold their farm to the USDA field station where a new self-pollinating almond variety was developed and bares the Yorizane namesake.

During her working years, Akiko traveled the world from Ireland to Hong Kong, but regrettably never made it to her ancestral Japan. She fondly remembered the beauty of the Rhine River and ultimately considered Spain as her favorite.

Akiko was a lifelong member of the Buddhist Church of Parlier where she was actively involved teaching Sunday School for over 20 years as well as teaching Japanese dances during the Obon season for many years. She was also a member of the Parlier Buddhist Women’s Association.

Akiko passed away on Dec. 23, 2023. She is survived by her niece Cheryl Koga and husband Curtis, her nephew Shaw Yorizane and wife Georgia and numerous grand and great grand-nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held in her memory on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Buddhist Church of Parlier.
