Hedwig Parichan
Hedwig (aka Hedy) Parichan, born in Austria in 1934, wife to Ralph for 59 years, mother to Eric and Kevin, grandmother to Craig, Daniel, and Brett, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. She was preceded in death by Ralph in 2021, and by her mother Maria.

1934–2024
She was a woman of many talents, with early interests in the arts and crafts, music, cooking, and travel. Some of those she continued throughout her life, such as the many years she and Ralph traveled after they retired, knitting and crocheting afghans, or the making of schnapps with a home still when she visited Austria. And sometimes she was like a magician, always managing to produce cookies or some other dessert from a secret location whenever company unexpectedly visited. When she could, she passed along those interests to her sons.
During the 30 years Ralph was the owner of Sam’s Shoe Store, Hedy was right there next to him. When she wasn’t working, she could be found tending to her home garden, which included fruit trees, vegetables and flowers—especially roses. And when she could, she’d volunteer, whether it was for the little league concession stand or the Sts. Sahag-Mesrob Armenian Church Fiesta food booth.
She gave up a lot to leave her native Austria and come to this country, and to make a better life for herself, and we’re all the better for it.
