Elsbeth Bates

Elsbeth Bates, of Fresno, died on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025. She was 100 years old. A funeral service was held on Aug. 12, 2025 at Wallin’s Funeral Home. Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Adan Anibal Ochoa IV

Adan Anibal Ochoa IV, of Sanger, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Mr. Ochoa was a cook for a restaurant. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home. A graveside will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba. Wallin’s Sanger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Katherine Jean Berreth Pinon

Katherine Jean Berreth Pinon, 66, of Reedley, Calif., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Nov. 13, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Richard and Beth Berreth.

Kathy grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Wayzata High School before attending Bethel College in St. Paul. She met the love of her life, Frank Pinon, in 1978, and they were married in Ruidoso, New Mexico, on Dec. 13, 1981. Together, they shared a life of deep faith, love, and family.

Kathy worked for 18 years as an engineering draftsman tech for the city of Reedley. She was devoted to her family and cherished time with her six grandchildren.

In 1984, Kathy survived a ruptured brain aneurysm, a miracle that left a lasting impact on her life and faith. She went on to raise two wonderful children, Nathaniel and Bethany, and touched many lives with her strength, kindness, and unwavering trust in God.

In 2018, Kathy was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. After five years of remission, the cancer returned, and she bravely fought for another 18 months surrounded by loved ones.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Frank Pinon; son Nathaniel and his three sons; daughter Bethany (Brandon Richart) and their three children; her parents, Richard and Beth Berreth; and her siblings Lin Christenson (Curtis), Dean Berreth (Heather), David Berreth (Linda), and Joanna Shoemaker (Keith). She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Kathy’s life was marked by grace, strength, and love. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Jerry Roman, Jr.

Jerry Roman, Jr., of Malaga, died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was 65 years old. Mr. Roman was a laborer. Wallin’s Fowler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marcela Salazar

Marcela Salazar, 86, passed away and went to Heaven. Born in Donna, Texas, she is survived by her children, Steven Salazar and his wife, Toshiye Salazar, Ruben Salazar and partner, Monica Eskandari, Andrew Salazar and wife, Terri Salazar and Teresa Kelly and husband, Andy Kelly; grandchildren, Stephanie Salazar, Matthew Salazar, Jason Salazar, Ruben Salazar Jr., Valerie Miramontez, Vanessa Salazar, Pearl Arzabal, Brandon Salazar, Russell Martinez and Heather McKinley; and great-grandchildren. Marcela is also survived by her siblings, Juana Bustos, Florentino Alaniz, Vidal Alaniz, Jr., and Daniel Alaniz. 

Marcela is preceded in death by her husband, Viviano and parents Vidal Alaniz Sr., and Candelaria Alaniz and sisters Alma Padron and Maria Elena Orona. 

Viewing and Rosary will be held Aug. 18, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Wallin Sanger Funeral Chapel and Mass service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Aug. 19, 2025 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Sanger District Cemetery.

Gilbert Dwight Unruh

Gilbert Dwight Unruh passed away on July 25, 2025, in Kingsburg, California, at the age of 80. He was a farmer. Gil grew up in Dinuba, California, and spent his life rooted in the Central Valley with the Sierra Nevada mountains as a backdrop. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alfred, and his nephew Morgan, and is survived by Carolyn, his wife of nearly 55 years; his children Mark (Rebecca), Becky, and Cory (Nate); grandchildren Caitlin, Ethan, Roxanne, Murdoch and Erica; siblings Clarence (MaryJo) and Jean, sister-in-law Peggy, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Gilbert’s life is planned for Oct. 19, 2025, in Kingsburg.
