Elida Castañeda
Elida Castañeda went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. Born on Aug. 22, 1946, in La Feria, Texas, Elida was the daughter of the late Catarino and Estefana Exinia.

1946–2026
As a young mother of three, Elida demonstrated extraordinary determination by returning to school and earning her associate degree in accounting. This achievement was a testament to her belief in growth, education, and creating new possibilities for her children.
Elida found joy in exploring thrift stores and delighted in discovering the latest gadgets from the Home Shopping Network. She cherished day trips to Mexico with her family, savoring the laughter, stories, and memories made along the way.
Elida served her church with humility and devotion—teaching Sunday school, playing piano, and singing in the choir. She poured her time, her talents, and her love into her church community, always seeking to uplift others and create a space rooted in kindness, encouragement, and God’s grace.
Elida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Uvaldo Castañeda, her brother Victor Exinia, and her grandson Joshua De Leon.
She leaves behind a family who carries her strength and kindness forward: her daughter Yolanda De Leon, her sons Daniel Garza Jr. and Jaime Garza, and her daughter-in-law Lea Garza.
Elida was a grandmother to six grandchildren: Martin Jr., Joshua, Jacob, Santiago, Olivia, and Evangeline.
She is also survived by her five sisters—Elva, Catarina, Mary Lou, Josie, and Graciela—and eight brothers Santos, Catarino Jr., Jose, Eduardo, Lupe, Juan, Robert, and Jesus.

• Mom •
Of all the special gifts in life, however great or small, to have you as our mom and grandma was the greatest gift of all.
May the winds of love blow softly and whisper in your ear, “We love and miss you and wish that you were here.”
Every time we think of you, our hearts fill with pride, and though we’ll always miss you, we know you’re by our side.
In laughter and in sorrow, in sunshine and in rain… We know you’re watching over us from Heaven—until we meet again.
In loving memory of our mom and grandma.
