Bedoya Holiday Classic boys basketball starts today

Host Dinuba takes on Immanuel in 8 p.m. feature game, four-day tournament involving 13 schools wraps up on Dec. 9

DINUBA – A first round matchup between the host Dinuba High Emperors and Immanuel High Eagles highlights the first day of play in the 8th annual Andrew Bedoya Holiday Classic boys basketball tournament.

Both the Emperors and Eagles carry 5-1 records into the feature game at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Dinuba High gym. Dinuba went 2-1 at the Valley Children’s Tip-Off Classic at Clovis North High School Nov. 30-Dec. 2 while Immanuel went 3-1 good for third place at its own Tournament of Champions on Nov. 29-Dec. 2.

Other first round games in Dinuba today pit Paso Robles (0-2) against Orosi (2-3) at 3:30 p.m., Orange Cove (3-4) against Chowchilla (5-3) at 5 o’clock and Sunnyside (2-1) against Hanford West (2-4) at 6:30 p.m. At Selma High, Central Valley Christian (1-1) plays Lemoore (1-2) at 6:30 p.m. while the host Bears (2-2) take on Redwood (4-0) at 8 o’clock.

The tournament has three divisions: Gold A (Dinuba, Hanford West, Immanuel, Sunnyside), Gold B (CVC, Lemoore, Redwood, Selma) and Silver (Chowchilla, Kennedy-Delano, Orange Cove, Orosi, Paso Robles). All teams play the others in their division.

Thursday, Dec. 7 games in Dinuba are Kennedy-Orosi at 3:30 p.m., Chowchilla-Paso Robles at 5 p.m., Redwood-CVC at 6:30 p.m. at Dinuba-Hanford West at 8 p.m.. In Selma, Immanuel plays Sunnyside at 6:30 p.m. while Selma battles Lemoore at 8 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 8 games in Dinuba are Paso Robles-Orange Cove (3:30), Kennedy-Chowchilla (5), Lemoore-Redwood (6:30) and Dinuba-Sunnyside (8). Games in Selma are Immanuel-Hanford West (6:30) and CVC-Selma (8).

All Saturday, Dec. 9 games will be played at Dinuba High main gym. Pool play concludes with Paso Robles playing Kennedy at 11 a.m. and Orange Cove and Orosi squaring off at 12:30 p.m. Fourth place teams in the Gold divisions play at 2 p.m., followed by the Gold third place game at 3:30 p.m. and gold second place teams playing at 5 p.m.

The championship game between the top finishers in each Gold division is set for 6:30 p.m., provided there are no overtime games delaying the scheduled tip time.
