REEDLEY – The 2024 Reedley College baseball season gets underway this weekend with the annual Alumni scrimmage.

The 1 p.m. scrimmage on Saturday, Jan. 20  will feature 17 members of the 2023 squad that fell to Santa Rosa JC in the Super Regionals after finishing second in the Central Valley Conference behind Fresno City College.

Among the 17 Tiger returnees is former Reedley High standout Will Gagnon, who has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play baseball at national powerhouse UCLA. Another returning all conference Tiger is outfielder Brody Block.

Prior to the Alumni scrimmage, Reedley travels to Bakersfield College on Friday, Jan. 19 for a scrimmage game before a scrimmage with the Renegades in Reedley on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The official season opener is in Cupertino at DeAnza College while the home opener is Friday, Feb. 1 against Oxnard College in the Reedley College Tournament. Santa Ana and Sierra College are also in the field for the two-day event.

BASKETBALL

Women rally to defeat Taft

Reedley College’s women’s basketball team used a 20-9 fourth quarter to rally from behind for a 67-61 victory at Taft College in a non-conference game on Jan. 10. The Tigers (10-6, 1-0 conference) got 17 points from Tianna Sutherland, 15 points from Karisma Truong (Sanger High) and 11 points from Makayla McGrath.

No results were available from RC’s game at West Hills College-Lemoore on Jan. 13. The Tigers will host Fresno City College at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at RC Gym.

Men drop pair of CVC road games

The Reedley College men fell to 4-10, 0-2 in Central Valley Conference play, following road losses at West Hills-Coalinga (84-78 on Jan. 10) and West Hills-Lemoore (92-70 on Jan. 13). Matt Ruegge scored 23 points in the first loss and 13 points in the loss in Lemoore.

Jayden Abuyen paced the scoring against WHC-Lemoore with 14 points. The Tigers have home games against Columbia College (Jan. 17) and Fresno City College (Saturday, Jan. 20, 3 p.m.).
